How many of you knit or crochet? I’ve been doing both for decades. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s it was necessary for young girls to learn the trade. It was how we made our own hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, shawls, poncho’s, etc. If you were a mother you knitted or crochet’ed your child’s afghan, sweaters, booties and hats.

Over the years I kind of gotten away from knitting and recently started to pick it back up again. Right now I’m going through a refresher course at the local community center and then I’m going to try to make a few projects from the book that I’m introducing to you today.
Title: Knitted Toys 20 Cute and Colorful Projects
Author: Jody Long
Publisher: Dover Publications
ISBN: 978-0-486-80288-6
Create a teddy bear, propeller plane, Russian doll, fire engine, and other cuddly toys with this easy-to-follow book. Knitters will treasure this guide to crafting 20 fanciful toys that appeal to boys and girls alike. Toys range from such traditional items as a bunny and a puppy to winsome versions of more unusual animal companions – a snake, bumblebee, mouse, caterpillar, and other endearing creatures.
There are step-by-step directions for each of the toys – several with bonus accessories to knit as well as color photographs of the completed projects. Suitable for knitters at all levels of experience, these toys make wonderful gifts and cherished keepsakes.
The Knitted Toys 20 Cute and Colorful Projects Book is a great book for beginners and those with a lot of knitting experience. Inside the book you’ll find full instructions, patterns and color photos to make: Airplane, Bumblebee, Caterpillar, Duck, Ladybug, Fire Engine, Hedgehog, Bear, Mouse, Rabbit, Octopus, Pig, Teddy, Fish, Dolly, Russian Doll, Puppy, Snake, Starfish, and Squishy Beach Balls.
As I previously stated I’m taking a refresher course right now (3 more classes to go) and then I’m going to attempt to make a few projects from the book. My daughter Shelly loves anything related to the seashore and asked me to make the Starfish and Octopus. My 10 year old great-granddaughter wants me to make her the Ladybug and my 3 year old great-grandson wants the fire engine. Great projects to keep me busy over the next few months.
