A Family Visit to The Hershey Story Museum

April 24, 2019 by Shelly

The Hershey Story Museum in Hershey, PennsylvaniaHershey is known to be the Sweetest Place on Earth. Its the home of Hershey’s Chocolate Factory, Chocolate World, Hersheypark (the amusement park), ZooAmerica and all things related to Milton S. Hershey, the founder of Hershey’s Chocolate.

We live about 15 minutes from Hershey and often take our grandchildren into Hershey for fun play dates with us. A few times every year we take them to the various tourist attractions and have a lot of fun!

A few months ago we took them to The Hershey Story Museum in downtown Hershey because we wanted them to learn about the history of Milton S. Hershey, the chocolate company, history on the town of Hershey and so forth.

The museum is located in the downtown area and close to Hersheypark, ZooAmerica, Chocolate World, the Giant Center and the Outlet Mall. If you’re going to be visiting the tourist attractions, you’ll definitely want to add the museum to your must-see list.

One of the nice things about this museum is that the entire family will enjoy it. Downstairs they have a children’s area with a lot of hands-on activities for the kids to enjoy. Our grandchildren spent an entire hour just in that area and really had a nice time.

We then headed upstairs to check out all of the exhibits and items they had on display.  We learned about Milton S. Hershey (his entire life), his marriage, how he got started in the chocolate making business, the history on the town Hershey and all sorts of other things! Its a really fascinating and interesting story.

Downstairs you’ll find a little cafe where you can grab a little bite to eat. Their food is “okay” but we found it to be a tad on the pricey side. We then headed into the gift shop so that the grand-kids could pick out a souvenir or two. Again, on the pricey side, so be prepared to spend some money.

When visiting the museum we recommend that you set aside 3 hours in your schedule. This will allow you to take your time going through the exhibits and really have the chance to experience everything that the museum has to offer. Overall, we had a great time and it made for a great “family” play date.

This always looks so fun. I know you all have been here several times. I bet your grand daughter is thrilled and each and every time is special. I sure wish we could travel more, it would be a good place to visit.

There’s not much I like more than a Hershey bar, so I really need to check out Hershey, the town. This looks like fun.

I have been to Hershey many times over the years but I have never visited the museum. Looks like I have been missing a nice stop.

I think I would have to investigate their selection of perishable mementoes!

This looks like such a fun museum to visit. It has been so long since I have been to a museum I am way over due.
