Years ago, my first “instant-read” food thermometer had a round dial face with teeny-tiny numbers and a probe that had to be inserted 2 inches into the food to get a reading, and it took about a minute to get that reading. My new EatSmart Precision Pro Thermometer not only banishes all of those issues but has even more great features—yay! Here’s a breakdown:

EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Food Thermometer

• The LCD digital display is large and easy to read, but if I’m having trouble seeing the display, pressing the “on/off” button changes the display to an illuminated blue backlight for great visibility.
• The sensor is located in the stem’s thin 1.5mm “step down” tip, while the stem’s full 3-inch length allows for testing even thick foods (e.g., lasagna).
• This thermometer’s “InstaRead Technology” gives a reading in 10 seconds or less.
• The removable protective stem cover doubles as a handle extender, clipping onto the end of the handle to keep my hand a safe distance from a potentially dangerous burn.
• The buttons are well spaced and easy to press, even while the thermometer is inserted into food.
• Pressing the helpful “Hold” button while the probe is inserted in the food freezes the reading so you can view and verify the temperature after withdrawing the probe from the food.
• The “Max” button is useful when you want to see the maximum or minimum temperatures reached.
• Five minutes after use, the thermometer automatically turns itself off to save undue battery wear.
• The casing material’s food-safe antimicrobial properties inhibit the growth of bacteria, helping to avoid cross-contamination.
