Create Beautiful Art and Clear Your Mind with Buddha BoardSuppose you wanted to exercise your creativity without having to learn a new craft or invest in complicated supplies. Well, you can! Meet the Buddha Board, a surface you paint on using only water. Your artwork flows from your brush then fades away as the water evaporates.

The Buddha Board

Here’s how Buddha Board describes their product: “Buddha Board is based on the Zen concept of living in the moment. You simply paint on the surface with water and your creation will come to life in bold design. Then, as the water slowly evaporates, your art will magically disappear leaving you with a clean slate, a clear mind and ready to create a whole new masterpiece.”

For such a simple idea, the Buddha Board provides an incredible amount of fun, contemplation, creativity, and more. The board is placed either horizontally or vertically on a base that doubles as a water tray and brush rest. That’s it! Just wet your brush and begin painting. A Buddha Board would be great for young artists to explore their creative side, but without making a lot of clutter for the front of your refrigerator (ha!) and without any toxic materials, since it requires only water.

The Buddha Board

Buddha Board’s tagline is “Master the art of letting go.” Indeed, using my Buddha Board is helping me learn to relax and let go. At first, if I wanted to begin a new design or made a stroke I didn’t like, I found it frustrating to have to wait for the image to evaporate so I could start over. But the waiting allowed me—forced me—to simply let time pass while watching the board clear. Truly, the time between bursts of painting on my Buddha Board became an enjoyable part of the process. I also like writing personal thoughts (wishes, regrets, etc.) and watching the words dissolve into nothingness; it almost takes their meaning away with them.

In addition to the full-size Original Buddha Board I received for this review, Buddha Board comes in two smaller models with built-in cases for portability, the Enso Buddha Board and the Mini Buddha Board. The Mini is also available in blue, red, pink, and green.

You can find out more about Buddha Board at their website. Using the website’s store locator I found several local Buddha Board retailers, including Barnes and Noble (good to know, since I’m thinking about getting myself a Mini Buddha Board).

If you follow Buddha Board on social media like Facebook, you’ll find posts encouraging contemplation, mindfulness, and relaxation. They also share ways people use their Buddha Boards, ranging from the amusing to the inspiring.

I’ve been enjoying my Buddha Board and look forward to years of creating works of art then letting them go, a concept I’m learning to embrace. It’s peaceful, and it seems to me that we can all use a little more peace in our lives.

This does look like a relaxing way to paint or create pictures. You don’t have to worry about making mistakes!

  2. That looks like a fun and relaxing thing. You truly don’t have to worry about what you paint.
