They’re great for helping to teach your child about healthy competition and good sportsmanship. I’ve enjoyed all of these classic board games as a child and now I’m enjoying them all over again as a parent.

Here is our list of our top 11 favorite classic children’s board games.

1. Candy Land Game – This was one of my favorite’s as a little girl and was one of the first games that I introduced to both of my children. It’s made by Hasbro and you can find the classic as well as various spin-off themes available in the retail market place.

2. Chutes and Ladders Game – A fun classic that is great for beginners who are just learning how to play. Requires 2-4 players and is made by Hasbro. A great one to help teach kids their numbers and simple counting.

3. Sorry Game – This one is for children ages 6+ and requires 2-4 players. What I find nice about this one is that kids, teens and adults can all play it together. Plus, each game typically takes less than 45 minutes to play.

4. Connect Four Game – A fun one that only requires 2 players and is for ages 6 and up. The object is to get four discs in a row and you’ll win! Another one that doesn’t take hours to play and is fun for both younger & older children.

5. The Game of Life – This is one of my daughter’s favorite games to play! It’s for ages 8+ and for 2-4 players. Kids will learn a little bit about life (in general), gain counting skills and more! A popular one for family game night!

6. Classic Monopoly Game – Made by Hasbro and one of the most popular board games in the world! For ages 8+ and for 2 to 8 players. This one does take some time to play, so best reserved for game playing on the weekends!

7. Checkers – What a classic! This is for ages 8+ and for 2 players. Requires children to problem solve, concentrate and learn to count.

8. Scrabble Junior Game – Made by Hasbro and for children ages 5 and up. What I like about this specific version is that it will grow with your child thanks to the double-sided game board. A great way to teach children how to spell and to problem solve.

9. Clue Game – Made by Hasbro and for ages 8 and up. This is a great one for families as you’ll need a minimum of 2 players and up to 6 can play at a time. This was one of my favorite games once I reached about 10 years of age.

10. Parcheesi Game – Made by Milton Bradley and for children ages 6-14 years of age. Requires 2-4 players, so it’s great for families with multiple children within that age range.

11. Aggravation Game -This one is for children ages 6+ and requires 2-6 players. This one launched in 1962 and has been a big hit with families for decades. It’s one that the entire family can play and enjoy.

    These games remind me of my childhood. I also used them with my kids and hope to play them with my grandkids.

  2. I love so many of these games and they remind me of my childhood. I still think these games are better than the new ones that they are coming out with. These oldies are wholesome and special in some way.

  3. We played many of these with our children and now with our grandchildren. I have 7 of these games and we play them on a regular basis.
