Hand Painted Floral Seashells for Spring Decorating

March 23, 2019 by Shelly

Hand Painted Floral Seashells for Spring DecoratingI love decorating for each of the different seasons throughout the year and spring is no different. As soon as the new season rolls around I get busy on decorating the outside of my home first. I admit, sometimes my seasonal decorating gets out of control.

These hand painted floral seashells are really easy to make. We made them using 5″ to 6″ wide clam shells, but you could make them using large river rocks, stone pavers, etc. We used smooth pebbles that we collected from the beach to make the flowers. Like I said, super-easy to make!

If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 70+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!

Hand Painted Floral Seashells for Spring Decorating

large clam shell seashells
5-6 small, smooth pebbles
metallic acrylic craft paint
paint brush, water dish, paper towels
E6000 adhesive glue
acrylic spray sealer, glossy finish
old sheets of newspaper

Lay newspaper down onto your work surface. Use metallic acrylic craft paint to give your clam shell 2 base coats of paint. We found it best to allow each coat to dry for about 45 minutes, before applying an additional coat. While the shell is drying, you’ll work on your flowers.

We picked up 50+ small, smooth pebbles off of the beach and decided to use those to make our flower petals. You’ll paint each pebble with your desired color. We used 2 coats of paint to get the even coverage that we wanted. You’ll want to allow the paint to dry for about an hour before flipping the pebble over and painting the other side. The front side of each pebble got 2 coats of paint, the back side got one coat (that side will be glued to the clam shell). We used 5-6 small pebbles per flower (for the petals) and then one additional pebble for the center of the flower. Paint your pebbles in the desired colors and then let them thoroughly dry.

Use E6000 adhesive glue to adhere the pebbles onto the front of your clam shell. This is a very strong adhesive, so be careful to NOT get it onto your skin. You’ll want to glue down your petals first and then place the center of your flower on top. See photos for placement. This adhesive will take a few hours to dry.

While the adhesive is drying you can  add your stem and leaves. We used green metallic paint and just free-handed them onto the shell. We waited for 30 minutes and applied a second coat of paint. We then left our seashells dry overnight.

Take your finished seashells outside and lay them onto newspaper. Spray a light coat of clear acrylic sealer on top. If you plan on displaying your shells indoors, one coat will be enough. If you plan on displaying them outdoors, you’ll need to do 2-3 coats. Let dry until no longer tacky. That’s it, you’re done!

I love the colors and the 3D effect on the shells. This is beautiful seashell for spring decorating.

I’ll be using stones on stones for this one. Major shortage of sea shells in Colorado.

I like how you used the beach pebbles to make the flower petals. Makes it looks extra cute and special with the pretty bright paint colors.
