We travel down to the beach house located in southern New Jersey a few times every year. We love visiting the beach and having fun in the Atlantic Ocean. I love the coastal life and once my husband retires in 5 years, we’ll be spending a lot more time down there.
Every time we go down we take the same familiar route. We like to travel down US Route 322 which goes into Chester Pennsylvania and then we cross the Delaware River via the Commodore Barry Bridge. It’s a 5 lane bridge runs from Chester, Pennsylvania into Bridgeport, New Jersey. I hate big bridges, especially ones that are congested with a lot of traffic, so I always get very nervous until we get through it.
Today I wanted to share with you a photo of the Commodore Barry Bridge (a toll bridge) and some of the river barges and businesses that sit along the Delaware River.
The first photo shows you the bridge itself. On that particular trip our ride across the bridge wasn’t too bad. We had nice weather and while there was a lot of traffic, we weren’t crawling across bumper to bumper with a lot of semi-trucks surrounding us. Those are the worst!
In my second photo you’ll see some of the river barges, ports and businesses that sit along the Delaware River on the Bridgeton, New Jersey side. As you can see in that photo and the third photo…the weather on that day was terrible. We had episodes of pouring down rain and a lot of mist & fog to deal with.
My third photo shows you the river barges and businesses that sit along the Delaware River on the Chester, Pennsylvania side. I took both of those photos while we were sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the top of the Commodore Barry Bridge. I wasn’t too happy about it.
The Delaware River is a major river on the east coast and runs through 5 states: New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. The water from the Delaware River runs into the Delaware Bay and that runs into the Atlantic Ocean near Cape May in New Jersey.
In the fourth photo you’ll see the beautiful Delaware Bay down in Cape May, New Jersey. We were standing on the beach, looking across the bay. On the other side of the bay is Lewes, Delaware. This is the same bay that the Cape May – Lewes Ferry crosses back and forth.
I thought it would be fun to do something a little bit different for this weeks TRAVEL FEATURE here on the blog. I wanted to take the opportunity to show you some photographs and give you some fun facts about the Delaware River. Hope you learned something new!
I am not a fan of bridges, especially being stuck on one with a lot of traffic. I also do not like all the factories with their emissions, even though I realize that the factories have to be somewhere.
I’m not a big fan of big bridges. We don’t have many here in Colorado. What is in the water in the last picture?
The remains of a sunken ship. That’s all that is left is what’s sticking out.
I have an aunt who is so afraid of tall bridges that she closes her eyes when she crosses them, even when she’s driving, lol. She’ll squint them closed, barely peeping through them, and let me tell you, that is an experience!!
I feel exactly the way you do about big bridges. I am not a fan of being stuck on them in bumper to bumper traffic! This is an interesting post!
