Easy St. Patrick's Day Painted Seashells

Easy St. Patrick’s Day Painted Seashells

Large 4″ to 6″ Wide Clam Seashell
Silver Metallic Acrylic Craft Paint
Medium Green and Dark Green Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Old Newspaper
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer with Silver Glitter

Lay newspaper down onto your work surface. Give each seashell two coats of the silver metallic acrylic craft paint and let dry for 45 minutes.

To make the good luck shamrock (clover) we simply had the children paint 3 hearts that meet in the center to give us the shape. They can draw it on with pencil and then paint over it. If you’re particular, you can find oodles of FREE printable clover templates online that you can use. You’ll want to use a medium shade of green paint and you might need to use two coats. Let Dry.

Using dark green and a thin outline brush, outline around the edges of your shamrock (clover). If you’re not good at detail painting, you can use a dark green Sharpie Marker. Let dry.

Lay newspaper down outside and place your painted seashells on top. We wanted to give our seashells a glitzy appearance so we opted to use a clear acrylic spray sealer that contained micro-fine silver glitter in it. We gave each seashell two light coats of the sealer and left them dry overnight.

Note: It was hard to photograph these seashells due to my camera flash and the silver metallic paint and then the glitter sealer on top. It drove my camera flash nuts!

I love the idea of using three hearts to make the clover shape. This is a cute craft for the kids.

  2. This is a craft that will work on rocks and not just shells. Some of your shell crafts make use of the design of the shell, but this is not particular.
