A few months ago we took a trip down to Virginia Beach in Virginia and had a really nice time. My husband has family members in the area and we try to go down once every 2 years to visit with them. Every time we visit, we try to squeeze in as many activities that we can.
One afternoon we took the 70 minute drive up to the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. It had been several years since we had been to the zoo and wanted to see how it had changed over the years. In my honest opinion, it’s the nicest zoo in the entire state.
When visiting you’ll have the opportunity to see zebra, giraffes, elephants, tigers, lions, cheetahs, chimpanzees, flamingo’s, a variety of birds and snakes, monkeys, bears, etc. They really have a nice variety of animals on exhibit and I really love learning about them and conservation efforts to save them in the wild.
At the zoo they have a train that you can get onto (separate fee for that) which takes you around the zoo. It will give you a nice view of the zoo and everything it has to offer. Plus, it’s a great way to get off your feet for awhile and to relax.
On the day that we visited we spent about 3 1/2 hours checking out the exhibits, listening to an educational program that they had going on, that train ride, etc. On our way out we hit up their fun gift shop for some souvenirs for the kids.
I apologize in advance for the quality of my photos. You all know me, I like to provide excellent quality pictures from our travel adventures, but I had forgotten my camera in our hotel room over an hour away. Hence, photos taken with a cellphone! Ugh.
This zoo sounds like a great place to visit. I always appreciate educational exhibits about the animals.
What a fun trip with so much to see and do. I always like it when there are educational exhibits and information about the animals.
