I met my husband back in the mid 1980’s and ever since I’ve known him, he’s been a huge Star Wars fan. Matter of fact, when we moved in together (years ago) we had to make moving arrangements for his massive Star Wars collection! Over the years many of our “date nights” included going out to see the newest Star Wars movie on the big screen.

In his Star Wars collection, he has hundreds of different action figures, board games, toys, puzzles, an R2D2 life-size toy box, models, apparel items, Christmas ornaments and all kinds of different things. I would estimate that his collection has grown to over 1,000 Star Wars items over the years.
For the past year my husband has been collecting the Fascinations Star Wars Metal Earth 3D Model Kits and just loves them! They’re metal model kits for grown-ups! He’s been collecting and building them for two reasons: 1. to add to his collection of items and 2. it’s a good way to sit down & relax after a long day at work. The perfect hobby for him to do when stuck indoors during the cold winter season and he swears it relieves his stress!
The metal model kits come in flat sheets with metal pieces that you pop out. They are very small pieces, but once they’re assembled you’ll have a 3D metal model. The pieces are from museum-quality, steel sheets, so they will last for years if you properly take care of them. No glue, adhesive or solder is needed! Simply pop out the pieces and connect using tabs and holes.
It takes my husband several days and up to one full week to build one Star Wars metal model. He likes to use a pair of tweezers when working on them to help bend & twist the connection tabs, but other than that…you don’t need any tools to assemble them. If you have any eyesight issues, you may need a big magnifying glass. Thankfully, I had an old pair of tweezers in my cosmetic case which I happily donated to him for his projects.
In the past I’ve blogged and showed you his R2D2 Model, his C-3PO Model, the Millennium Falcon model, the AT-AT and today I’m showing you the Special Forces Tie Fighter that he recently completed. This one really turned out nicely and ONLY took him a weekend to complete. Once done they get displayed in his curio cabinet down in his man cave. Yup, his man cave is decorated in a Star Wars theme.
You can purchase the Metal Earth Star Wars: Special Forces Tie Fighter Model Kit over on Amazon for a really great price. Amazon is where we’ve been purchasing them from. They have all kinds of different kits for you to choose from including the ones that I’ve highlighted in my post. He plans on collecting and building them all. You can buy single model kits or a set of three kits at one particular time. If you have a Star Wars fan in your life, these metal model kits make a great gift!

My son would love to see all these Star Wars collectibles that your husband made. His man cave must be very impressive.
I’ve bought my son a couple of these Star Wars Metal Ships. He loved putting them together and still has them sitting in his room.
My son would love to have one of these kits. He is a huge fan also. I will have to keep this in mind for his birthday. Thanks.
That’s an impressive collection! This model is very detailed. It requires more patience than I have.
This is nifty! I knew he was doing the metal model kits you had posted about them before, but the Star Wars is nice. This one is double duty it fits into two collections. I have always thought these were great looking and needing no solder or anything makes them even better. May the force……. well you know!
I’ve never collected Star Wars stuff, but I love the movies, animated series, even that old Christmas special, lol. I’m over 50, so I remember sitting in a theater waiting for that very first Star Wars (which later became episode 4, oddly, lol.) My nephews are astounded when I tell them I remember a World before Star Wars.
