Kid’s Craft Project: Mermaid Seashell Compact Mirror

My 9 year old granddaughter loves to craft and has been crafting with me since the age of 4. A few weeks ago she found some inspiration over on Pinterest for us to make a Mermaid Seashell Compact Mirror. Just like most little girls, she loves girly things and she likes a lot of bling on them!

We were able to make our Mermaid Seashell Compact Mirror in less than 2 hours. We picked up our plastic mirror compact at our local Dollar Store and then used general craft supplies to “pretty it up”. I think it turned out cute!

Plastic Double Mirror Compact
Scallop Seashell
Pink Metallic Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towel
E6000 Adhesive Glue
10 Small Half-Pearls
2 6MM Glass Pearls

We painted a scalloped seashell with 2 coats of pink metallic acrylic craft paint. It took 90 minutes for the paint to thoroughly dry.

When it comes to adhesive and glue, I don’t recommend using a hot glue gun for this project. The pearls and seashell will come off within days. I recommend using the permanent E6000 Adhesive Glue. It takes 2-3 hours to dry, but it’s the BEST glue for this project and everything will stay in place.

Once your seashell is dry, use the E6000 Adhesive Glue to adhere it onto the front of your compact. We used a little bit of adhesive around the entire outer edge of our seashell and then pressed it down into place.

Use the adhesive to glue the 10 half-pearls around the edge of the compact mirror. Just a little dab of glue will do. Add the adhesive onto one side of each of the round glass pearls and glue them onto each side of the scallop shell (the bottom edge) as shown in the photo. Let everything dry for 2-3 hours and you’re done!

You can choose to decorate both sides of the compact mirror. We decided to decorate just the one side, so that the Princess could open up her mirror and set the undecorated side down flat on her desk. She likes to carry her mirror to school in her book bag or purse.
