A Visit to the Wildwood Historical Museum in New Jersey

George F. Boyer Historical Museum in Wildwood New JerseyThe George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum is a museum located in Wildwood, New Jersey. The museum is open year-round and has FREE admission. While the museum is family-friendly, I think it’s best for adults who are interested in learning about the history of the Wildwoods island.

A few months ago my family had the opportunity to visit the museum and we really learned a lot! Your visit starts off with a short film (lasting about 20 minutes in length) that gives you the history of Wildwood…from the good old days until present time. I really enjoyed seeing some of the sites from my childhood days, that are no longer there. Sigh. Memories.

After we were done with the film we started our self-guided tour to check out some of the exhibits. We got to see a lot of vintage photos, old Wildwood souvenirs, items from some of the old amusement parks, restaurants and hotels, along with old Doo Wop items from that particular music era. A lot of people state that Doo Wop music originated in Wildwood!

It took us approximately 75 minutes to walk through the museum and check out the majority of their exhibits. It was really fun to see all of the vintage Wildwood-related items and to learn about the history of the island. Once we were done I purchased a few “vintage” Wildwood postcards and sent them to my family and friends at home. Gosh, I really miss those good old postcards from years-gone-by!

If you’re heading down to Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood or to Cape May…you’ll want to stop in to the George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum. It’s a great educational activity to do, especially on a rainy day when you don’t want to be on the beach!
