Kid’s Crafts: Painted Penguin River Rocks

Kid's Crafts: Painted Penguin River RocksThe cold weather has finally set in and I’ve been trying to keep my 9 year old granddaughter busy. Every week we’ve been sitting down and working on some fun craft projects and today…I’m going to show you these adorable Penguin river rocks that we made. I think the Princess did a great job!

Kid’s Crafts: Painted Penguin River Rocks

Oval Shaped Smooth River Rocks
Black, White and Orange Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish and Paper Towels
Old Newspaper
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Glossy Finish

Cover your work surface with newspaper. You will want to base coat your smooth river rocks with 2 coats of black acrylic paint. Let dry for about 35 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Using the white acrylic craft paint…paint on the penguin’s oval-shaped belly and 2 dots for the eyes. Dip the end of your paint brush into orange acrylic craft paint and dot on orange colored dots for his feet and a triangular shape for his beak. Dip the end of your paint brush into black paint and dot the center of each eye. Use a round wooden toothpick to dot on 2 tiny dots onto his beak. Dip the end of the paint brush back into white paint and dot on the center of each eye. Let paint dry for 30-45 minutes or until no longer tacky.

Have an adult lay newspaper down outside. Lay your painted rocks on top. Spray each rock with a coat of the clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry for 1 hour. Flip your rocks over and spray the other side with the clear acrylic sealer. Let dry for 1 hour. Your new Penguin river rocks are now ready to be displayed.
