Crafting Wood Decorations for Your Home

December 6, 2018 by Sam H.

Wood is versatile in its usage. It can be used for a myriad of things around the home. In the past when glasses and glass blowing weren’t so common around the world, wood served as virtually everything in terms of furniture and interior home décor. From the couch, center table, diner set, dresser, picture frame, to the shelves and lockers around the home, everything screamed of woodwork. These days you can transform any ugly piece of lumber into a beautiful fantastic work of art in minutes. Wooden crafts have refuse to fade into irrelevance because they make fabulous pieces of artful decorations, they are durable and help you save more in terms of cost.

Crafting wooden decorations are pretty much easy. You don’t need to be a pro at woodwork to get started. All you need is a bunch of ideas and some basic implements then you can kick-off and in this article I will be providing you with some of the ideas and the tools you’ll need.

Crafting Wood Decorations for Your Home

Tools Needed For Your Wood Décor

Hammer: You’ll be needing this tool to fasten nails. It’s a must have.
Glue: In most cases, nails and hammers are not needed. You just glue the cut pieces together to get what you want.
Table Saw: This is very paramount. You’ll need it to cut the wood into different shapes and sizes.
Drill: With drill bits, you can create holes into the wood easily. These holes can accommodate pins, nails and screws.
Measuring Tape: As the name implies, it is used for taking measurements. The last thing you want is having one part longer than the other.
Nails: Most of the decorations will be placed against the wall of your home. Nails comes in handy.
Sander: This tool is used to smooth rough surfaces very fast and to shape edges.
Clamps: Since it is a DIY thing, a clamp is your personal assistant. It will help keep the wood in a proper position when you want to nail, glue or arrange them together.
The Wood Itself: A 2×4 wood would do just fine for most of your wood décor. However, you can use a higher size if the nature of the work demands it.

Those aren’t all the tools involved in woodwork and designs, but they are substantial enough to get you some of the budget friendly decorations you’ll need in your home.

Now let’s get down to some of the fabulous wood crafted designs you can do yourself and make your home a fine epitome of rustic arts collections.

Wood Picture Frame DIY

1. Wood Picture Frame

Most of the picture frames common are all made of wood. You can do yours right at home with a 2×4. You’ll be looking at making a square or rectangular picture frame that can house your beautiful pictures. The call is yours to make when it comes to the design and painting. The most important thing is that at the end you have a beautiful picture frame crafted out of wood by your hands.

2. Wood Mini-Flower Centerpiece

The flower vase is meant to be indoors because of how small they are designed to be. You can place them on top on of your table, dresser, file cabinet, floating shelves or anywhere you deem fit. They are square-like in shape with holes on the planes of each side of the 2×4. You can make the holes using a drill. Use sandpaper or sander to smooth the entire surface and body to make it attractive and ready to be sprayed. The holes accommodate the tiny flowers dipped into them as they take aesthetics to a whole new level.

3. Wood Backdrops

This will need more wood than usual. 2×4’s and 2×6’s are needed in their numbers. It doesn’t require much technicalities, just get the wood flattened with a big chisel. The chisel can smooth the surface. Then you paint them in your choice of colors. Gold or any color dark in appearance but with lustre will do. Your hammer and nails are going to be deployed for this. Use them to fasten the boards into the wall and get that rustic beautiful appeal in your home.

4. Wood Mirror Frame

You can coat the entire length of your mirror with a wooden frame just to make it beautiful in your bedroom or bathroom. You can do this for mirrors in different sizes. All you need to do is measure the dimensions of the mirror and use it to construct a wooden frame. When painting, use a spray color that will reflect light brilliantly. A dull painting will make it less attractive.

5. Wood Candle Holder

Have your candles go rustic when they glow in wooden candle holders. It’s beautiful and lovely. You can do this with pieces of abandoned 2×4 lumbers in your basement. Use your saw to cut them into squares and the drill bit to create holes where the candles can fit in perfectly. After drilling for a while, use the candle sticks to check if it’s right for the hole. The candles should be your guide in essence.

Conclusion: Wood craft decorations aren’t limited to those ideas I highlighted. There are dozens of ideas unexplored. You could look around your home with a creativity hat and craft out fine decors from woods. You can get very efficient table saws which you’ll be using 90% of the time to cut woods into different sizes. Use these table saws to make your own wooden decorations and add a rustic artful appeal to your home.
