The road was bumpy at times and let’s face it…it was difficult at the beginning. However, once we made the changes and got through the first 2 months, things got a whole lot easier.

Here are 5 Tips for Eating Healthy and Losing Weight

1. Invest in a quality-made kitchen scale and digital bathroom scale. You will need the kitchen scale to measure out your portions to make sure you’re not over-eating. We’ve all grown up eating the incorrect portion size. Just “eyeballing” it doesn’t work!

You’ll need a Precision Tracker Digital Bathroom Scale and we recommend getting one from EatSmart. Matter of fact, you can get a nice kitchen scale from them too! This bathroom scale features step-on technology, features a tempered glass platform, holds up to 440 lbs. (max weight), has a large digital 3″ display screen with blue blacklight, it tracks your weight as you go up and/or down and comes with 3 AAA batteries to get you started.

This bathroom scale is one of the best that we’ve ever owned! We both use it to track our weight and do our weigh-ins twice a week. It’s easy-to-use and easy to track your progress.

2. Menu Planning – We found that menu planning was a big key to our success. We sat down together every 2 weeks and planned out all of our meals, snacks and beverages. We made sure to select healthy, low-cal options. When we went grocery shopping we ONLY purchased the items that we needed for the 2 weeks. We refused to be tempted by discounts, sales, etc. If you don’t buy the unhealthy foods, they won’t be in your house to eat!

3. Track Your Progress – We purchased notebooks and documented everything! We wrote down what we consumed, our current weight, how much exercise we had for that particular day, etc. On the first of every month we took a photograph of ourselves and tucked that into our notebook. It was really motivating to see our changes on a month to month basis.

4. The Buddy System – Hubby and I did this together. I highly recommend that you find someone (a spouse, family member, friend, co-worker, etc.) to make the changes along with you. You can motivate one another and hold each other accountable.

5. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise – You can hit the gym for exercise if that’s your thing. In our case, it wasn’t. We opted to do other things to get ourselves up and moving! Two-three times a week we go out for walks and when the weather is nice we go hiking. During the summer months we did a lot of swimming and riding our bikes. Incorporate other changes too! When going out to run your errands…park further away so that you have to walk. Take the stairs instead of an elevator! Work on home improvement & landscaping projects, clean your house on a weekly basis. The point is…get moving and to stay moving!!!
