Old Historic Cemeteries in Central Pennsylvania

Paxton Church Cemetery in Harrisburg PennsylvaniaMy husband and I enjoy visiting old historic cemeteries in our local area. Why you might ask? Well, for a few reasons.

1. We enjoy learning about history and you can learn a lot by walking through an old cemetery and reading the gravestones and memorial markers. Plus, if the caretaker is around, speak to him or her about the place you’re visiting. Often times they’re very knowledgeable and love sharing history with you.

2. It’s a great way to pay respect to our fallen heroes. We enjoy visiting the graves of fallen soldiers and paying respects. We will sometimes lay wreaths or place an American flag on their grave. These brave heroes can NEVER be forgotten!

3. Unlike others…we don’t find cemeteries to be spooky or eerie. We find them to be beautiful places to visit!

4. Walking is a great form of exercise and walking in a cemetery on the paved paths and/or road is a great form of exercise and it gets you out into the fresh air & sunshine.

The photographs that I’m sharing today in our blog post were taken at 3 different cemeteries in Central Pennsylvania…the Harrisburg area. Each one offers something a little bit different and/or unique. All three are open to the public for visitation.
