Movie Review: The Darkest Minds

November 11, 2018 by Jenelle

The Darkest Minds Blu-Ray DVDMy family likes to sit down together about once a week to enjoy a movie together. I have two children (age 3 and age 9) so often times it ends up being an animated film that both children will enjoy. However, we have recently realized that our 9 1/2 year old is tired of animated flicks and is now interested in watching pre-teen and teenage movies.

The Darkest Minds Movie

Let me introduce you to the brand new movie DVD release titled The Darkest Minds starring Bradley Whitford, Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickson and Skylan Brooks, who I had never heard of until this film. The movie is rated PG-13 with a run time of 104 minutes.

Synopsis: From the producers of Stranger Things comes an empowering tale of teens who mysteriously develop new abilities and are declared a threat by the government. Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon, this newfound family realizes that collective power is needed to take back control of their fate and save future generations.

The Darkest Minds Movie

Our Thoughts: I sat down to watch this film with my 9 1/2 year old daughter. The movie starts off kind of slow and I’m not sure what mysterious force has killed off a generation of children leaving behind only the children with special abilities. I’m not sure if the movie ever explains that.

As the story goes on the children with these special powers end up getting together and forming their own “family-style unit” and realize that they have to be the ones to fight back, take control and to get the world back onto the right track. There is drama, adventure and a little bit of romance between Ruby and Liam. A little bit of something for everyone to keep you entertained.

We don’t give out “spoilers” on the blog so I won’t be telling you how the movie ends. I will tell you that it doesn’t end the way that I thought it would. While at times I found the movie to be a little “boring” my 9 1/2 year old daughter was really into it. Matter of fact, she’s watched it three full times since we received it. She likes it!

You can purchase the movie in blu-ray dvd, DVD or digital download formats. If you have teens living in your household, I think this would be an entertaining film that they would enjoy.

I too have never heard of this movie until your review. I can understand why it would especially be of interest to preteens and teens.
