Craft Project: The GRINCH Painted Seashells
During the holiday season my grandchildren enjoy sitting down and watching all of the animated holiday specials. One of their favorite Christmas TV specials is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, so we decided to come up with a painted seashell design to represent one of their favorite holiday shows.
Craft Project: The GRINCH Painted Seashells
Large Clam Shell Seashell
Acrylic Craft Paint: Green, Bright Yellow
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Black Sharpie Marker
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Glossy Finish
Old Newspaper
Lay newspaper down onto your work surface. Use green acrylic craft paint and give your clam shell two full coats of paint, let dry for 1 hour. For this project you want the “pointy” end of your clam shell facing up. Use bright yellow acrylic paint and paint two teardrop shaped eyes. We found that two coats of paint were needed. Let dry for 1 hour.
Use a black Sharpie Marker to draw on all of The Grinch’s facial features. Make sure your base coat paint has thoroughly dried on using a marker on the top won’t work. If you have a steady hand, you can certainly do all of his facial features with black acrylic paint. We had 9-12 year old children making these, so we opted for the black Sharpie Marker. Let dry for 30-45 minutes.
Take newspaper outside and lay it on the ground or on top of a table. Place your painted seashells on top. Lightly spray each one with a coat of the clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry for 30 minutes. Flip over the seashells and spray the other side. If you’re going to display them outdoors, you’ll need two coats of sealer. If you’re displaying them indoors, one coat will be enough. Let them thoroughly dry. That’s it, you’re done!
You can use these painted seashells to decorate your front porch, your flower beds, the steps leading up to your front door, placed on windowsills, tabletops, shelves, the fireplace mantel or give them as fun handmade Christmas gifts!
