Selling Your Home? Here Are a Few Tips for Home Staging

October 26, 2018 by Sam H.

One of the steps to selling a home is to stage it for potential buyers. Home staging is preparing a residence to sell. Its primary purpose is to make a house look appealing so that a lot of people will view it. This way, it will garner a lot of offers and will sell swiftly with possibly the highest possible bid.

Home staging, however, has certain and dos and don’ts that one should keep in mind. The following great tips should be a good start for a successful home staging.

Selling Your Home? Here Are a Few Tips for Home Staging

Make Sure That Your House Is Clean

It’s a giant and almost impossible feat to sell a house that looks, feels, and smells dirty. Treat the staging as if it were a job interview for your home. Just like when you’re preparing for a job interview, your house should be clean and neat when it meets potential new owners.

The windows should be clear and sparkling. The floors should be shiny. Every surface should be free of dust and grime.

If you are too busy with moving preparations to handle this part of home staging, there are fantastic cleaning services near you to take the task off your plate. Hiring professionals is highly recommended for those who have big houses or have tough spots to scrub.

Alternatively, if you’re having professional photos taken and don’t need to worry about in person visits, you could consider using an AI virtual staging program to clean up mess, touch up fine details and even add furniture into the images to make your home look better. This can save you the backbreaking labor of doing a full scale clean and makes your photos look better than you could make them without these tools.

Trim Down on Personal Accents

While personal details are what make your home yours, you have to keep in mind that they may not appeal to those who will go in to view the house. In home staging, it is important to store photos and other reminders that others humans are living in the house. The home has to look like a blank canvas that its potential owners can imagine decorating in their own style.

Of course, this does not mean that you have to fully depersonalize your space for a home staging. Small and stylish details such as customized curtains can be included for home viewers to enjoy.

If you have too many things and nowhere to put them, consider renting storage for the duration of your home sale.

Upgrade Area Rugs and Towels

Small details can be overlooked when preparing a house for viewing. In rooms that see a lot of traffic, area rugs may already look drab and old. Replace them with new sets before opening your house for a home staging.

In the toilets or bathrooms, replace colorful towels with ones in neutral colors. White is always a good idea. The same goes for linen closets that interested buyers may open and scrutinize.

Make a Great First Impression

To do this, you need to stage your yard and porch too. Curb appeal is essential when it comes to a successful home staging. Make sure that your walkways and fence are clean. The lawn should be mowed before opening your house for viewing. Front windows, glass doors, and porch floors should be washed and cleaned as well.

Greeneries will help in this aspect. Hang flowerpots, add cute planters, and try to do what landscaping you can manage in order to sell your house faster.

Don’t Forget the Outdoor Areas

You should not focus your staging efforts only on the indoor areas of your house. Much like the front yard and the porch, other outdoor areas of your home should also be prepared stylishly for potential buyers. A few things to remember include removing toys from the pool or surrounding spots, adding nice but neutral outdoor furniture, and trimming greeneries. Additionally, exterior house painting adds a unique curb appeal to your home, which can be very appealing to potential buyers. Be sure to hire a painting contractor who uses the best possible materials to ensure an attractive and long-lasting finish.

Take Note

Simply follow the steps above, and you will find home staging a breeze. For sure, your next highest bid and buyers will be the next persons to step inside the doors after following these simple tips for a successful home staging.

And more about cleaning: get into the nooks and crannies! Having bought a few houses, seeing crud in the tub area or kitchen is a real turn-off!
