Try SeaSnax Chomperz Crunchy Seaweed Chips for a Healthy, Salty Snack

Recently I received a variety of products from SeaSnax, makers of seaweed snacks and foods. Check out my review of their Roasted Snack Sheets and Grab & Go Packs, wafer-thin sheets of seaweed roasted with extra virgin olive oil in several different flavors to eat as snacks or use in recipes. Keep an eye out for a future post all about SeaSnax SeaVegi Seaweed Salad Mix and SeaSnax Raw Seaweed Sheets, too. But today I’m here to tell you about SeaSnax Chomperz Crunchy Seaweed Chips.

Like other SeaSnax products, Chomperz are Non-GMO Project Certified and made from Korean seaweed. In this case, the seaweed is shaped into thin curls that are wrapped in a crust made from rice flour with sea salt and, in the case of the flavored styles, a variety of seasonings. Chomperz have a marvelous crunch and just enough salt to satisfy that craving for a crispy, salty snack. SeaSnax likens Chomperz to popcorn, but “more hearty and satisfying.”

Chomperz Crunchy Seaweed Chips are available in four different varieties: Original (sea salt), Jalapeno, Barbecue, and Onion. All share that signature salty crunch, and all of the different flavors are appealing. I found myself hoarding the Barbecue, since I love that smoky barbecue tang. The Jalapeno flavor is definitely spicy, with an authentic jalapeno after-burn, while the Onion has a full, savory onion taste. The easy-open one-ounce packages are resealable, but if you’re like me, you won’t need to take advantage of that feature, even though a serving size is considered one-half of a package. However, even if you eat an entire package at one sitting, it’s still only 80 calories, 4g fat, and 170mg sodium. On the plus side, the whole package supplies a whopping 8g protein as well as iron and Vitamins A and C, so you don’t have to feel guilty about enjoying your Chomperz.

The tagline on each package of Chomperz Crunchy Seaweed Chips states that they’re “Boldly going where no seaweed has gone before™.” I get a big kick out of that—you’ve gotta love a snack with a sense of humor!
