How many of you enjoy going out and touring some of the historic homes in your area? We enjoy going out all over our state to tour them, especially the old homes from the 1880’s and the Victorian era.
Last winter while on a road trip through northern Pennsylvania we passed through Mifflinburg. If you have never heard of Mifflinburg, it’s a small town that was known for buggy and carriage making in the late 1880’s and early 1900’s.
We stopped in and took a tour through the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum and afterwards we had the opportunity to check out the William A. Heiss House. This particular home was built in 1870 and is a 2-story house done in the typical style for the period.
William A. Heiss was a buggy maker (one of the best) who lived in Mifflinburg and ran a buggy-making business in another building on his property. The house is still standing and is now part of the Buggy Museum Complex and visitors can take tours of it while at the museum. Isn’t that cool?
Can you even imagine what it would of been like to live in a house like that in the late 1800’s? We are all spoiled now with our modern conveniences, so I can’t even fathom what it would of been like!

I would enjoy touring a museum and house like these from the late 1800’s.
I so love history and looking at old houses and learning about different time periods. Thank you for posting the great pictures hope you have a nice weekend.
It is always so interesting to find the history that goes along with these older homes and to think about what life was like back then. I bet a tour would be fun.
I love old homes like that. They’re just so beautiful inside and have so much ‘character’ (I know, I hate when house hunters on TV use that word so much, but it does fit, lol.)
I love looking at how things were made in the 1800’s. It is fascinating that they could do all that they did do. I like to visit museums like that too.
This is fascinating. I would love to see this places like this are always so cool!
