Hiking and Camping in Ricketts Glen State Park
Ricketts Glen State Park is located in Columbia, Luzerne, and Sullivan counties in Pennsylvania. The park is a National Natural Landmark comprising of 13,000+ acres. Thousands of visitors flock to this park to enjoy camping, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, boating, fishing and other outdoor activities.
Within the park you’ll find 24 beautiful named waterfalls, some are fairly easy to get to and others are for more experienced hikers. If you plan on going hiking within the park, I recommend that you dress appropriately and wear comfortable walking shoes. In addition, you’ll want to carry a few non-perishable snacks & several bottles of water along with you.
Every year we like to visit Ricketts Glen State Park for the weekend. It’s a great family-friendly place for camping and hiking. When we visit, we try to hike some of the trails that we haven’t hiked before. Trust me, it’s a BIG park and there is no way that you can hike all of the trails in a weekend.
You can visit the park’s visitor’s center to obtain a map which will show you the area’s hiking trails, waterfalls and in-park attractions. All of the trails that we’ve been on have been nicely marked and during the summer tourist season, they can get busy. With that said, I find it best to go in late spring or early fall when the temperatures aren’t too blazing hot.
Today’s I’m sharing a few photos with all of you from one of our most recent camping trips up to Ricketts Glen. As you can see, the waterfalls are absolutely beautiful and quite something to see! If you enjoy the great outdoors…this is definitely one state park that should be on your travel bucket list.
