Hiking at Bushkill Falls in the Pocono Mountains
Bushkill Falls is located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Locals and visitors often refer to it as the Niagara Falls of Pennsylvania. If you enjoy hiking, waterfalls and being out in nature…this is definitely one place that you’ll want to visit.
A few months ago my husband and I took the 2 1/2 hour drive up to Bushkill Falls to spend the day doing some light hiking. Now that I’ve had my total knee replacement, I can only do the easy walking trails. Thankfully, this park has a good mixture of easy, moderate and experienced hiking trails and walkways. There are some wooden boardwalks at different places to make walking even easier.
There are 8 waterfalls in the park…with most of them being named and three being un-named. The tallest waterfall is a little over 100 feet tall and is the main attraction. I have to admit, it’s the prettiest one too! When visiting, you’ll want to wear season appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Don’t forget your sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray and bottled water too!
On the property you’ll find picnic tables (bring your own lunch), miniature golf, mining for gemstones, fishing (you’ll need to buy a permit), paddle boats and other activities that you can participate in. Each activity that you do…you’ll have to pay a reasonable fee, plus you’ll have to pay a general admission into the park itself. Children under 3 are admitted free with a paying adult.
We spent a total of 3 1/2 hours up at Bushkill Falls and had a really nice time. We enjoyed a little bit of hiking, spent 45 minutes on a paddle boat and then enjoyed a round of miniature golf. Wow, what a fun day for sure!
