Hand-Painted Black Spider Seashells for Halloween
For the past year we’ve shared over a dozen hand-painted seashells, clam shells and river rock projects with all of you. The majority of these projects can be made with older children and some “light” adult supervision. With Halloween just around the corner, we wanted to feature one more hand-painted seashell design with all of you. If you don’t have access to large clam shells, you can do this design on smooth river rocks too! In addition, you can use regular acrylic craft paints or mix-in some glow-in-the-dark colors too!

Old Newspaper
If you’re doing this project with kids, you’ll want to cover your work surface with old newspaper.
You’ll want to base coat each of your seashells with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint. Depending on the brand of paint that you use, you may need to use 3 coats to get good coverage. Let dry for 1 hour.
To make the spider you’ll want to make a circle in the center of your seashell using black acrylic craft paint. You’ll want to be generous with the amount of paint that you’re using, so that you get good coverage. Using your paint brush make 6-8 legs on your spider. They should be slightly bent legs. Then make a fine line with the black paint to make it look like your spider is hanging by a thread. Let dry for 1 hour or until no longer tacky.
Dip the end of your paint brush into green paint and dot on two eyes. While your eyes are drying, dip the end of your paint brush into dark purple and orange acrylic craft paints and make dots around the perimeter of your seashell. Dip the end of your paint brush into yellow paint and dot on the spider’s inner eyes. Let dry for 1 hour.
Take your painted seashells outside and lay them on newspaper. Spray them with 1-2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer and let dry. The sealer will protect your painted surface from chipping, cracking and fading. You can display your new Halloween Black Spider Seashells inside or outside your home.
