The Virginia Safari Park and Zoo is located in Natural Bridge, Virginia. It’s one of the largest safari parks on the east coast and in my personal opinion, the nicest! It’s a combination drive-thru safari park and zoo, so you can choose to do just the safari attraction, the zoo attraction or both while you’re there.
When visiting you’ll have the opportunity to see a wide variety of different animal species. We enjoyed seeing the spider monkeys, goats, llamas, bison, buffalo, tigers, giraffes, tortoise, deer, rhinos, penguins, etc. and my husband really enjoyed visiting their reptile house.
For the Safari portion you stay within your vehicle and drive through that section of the park where the animals roam free. You can pay extra for a bucket of feed and the animals will come right up to your car window to eat from the bucket! The kids really enjoyed seeing them up close and feeding them!
The zoo portion is like your classic zoo where you walk around and visiting various animals in their exhibits. There is a petting zoo section where kids can pet and feed those particular animals, which allows them to get up close & personal with them.
When planning your visit, I recommend allowing at least 3 hours in your schedule, so that you can take your leisurely time enjoying everything that the park has to offer. There is an on-site cafe where you can grab a quick to bite to eat and after you’re done at the park you can do some shopping in their gift shop to pick up some gifts and souvenirs.
Our family had a wonderful time visiting the Virginia Safari Park and Zoo and next time, we’re hoping to spend the entire day!
I have never been to the Virginia Safari park zoo. I would love to visit there and see all the different sections.
I haven’t been to a safari park in ages. I wasn’t even sure if they had them anymore. Good to know. Another trip to enjoy with the grandchildren.
the baby llama is so adorable!! I don’t think i’ve ever seen a kangaroo. I’ve been wanting to do a drive thru safari ride so we could see some of the animals up close but i think i would be just as scared as my toddler lol! he does love going to the zoo though
Those look like lazy kangaroos to me. Fun place to visit. Only 2,000 miles from me.
This looks like fun. We have visited a kangaroo farm. That was really fun to see them.
I enjoy seeing the pictures from the zoo visit. It had to be fun to drive through the safari portion of the zoo; that is something our family would enjoy doing.
Seeing cute animals always is fun! This place looks like a blast. 🙂
