How many of you enjoy eating Pierogies? My family loves them and I like making them on those busy weeknights when I need to get dinner onto the table FAST. For those of you who have never had them, Pierogies are filled dumplings of Eastern European origin made by wrapping unleavened dough around a savory or sweet filling and cooking in boiling water. Typical fillings include potato, sauerkraut, ground meat, creamy cheeses, and fruits. You can make your own homemade Pierogies are buy pre-made ones at your local grocery store.
Cheese Stuffed Pierogies with Butter, Bacon and Onions Recipe
16 oz. pkg. Cheese Stuffed Pierogies
1/4 cup Sweet Onions, Diced
1/4 to 1/3 cup Butter, Melted
2 – 3 Slices Bacon, Cooked and Crumbled
1/2 Tbsp. Oregano
Place Pierogies into salted, boiling water and boil for 5 to 7 minutes or until fork tender.
While Pierogies are cooking place the diced onions, melted butter, cooked & crumbled bacon and Oregano into a large frying pan or wok. Saute over medium heat for 3-4 minutes or until onions are translucent and fork tender.
Drain water from the Pierogies and pour them into the frying pan. Stir all ingredients together and simmer over low heat for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. Remove. Serve immediately.
Note: When the grandchildren are at our home for dinner, they like to dip their Pierogies in catsup. My husband enjoys them just like prepared above but with the addition of a little sea salt and ground black pepper on top. Not a fan of bacon? You can completely omit it from the recipe.

I have not made pierogies in a longtime. I think it would be a real hit and I would love to add the onions and bacon to them.
Love pierogies try to keep them in the freezer all the time. Never have had a sweet one they must not sell them around here. I saw on Rachel Ray cooking show one time how she fixed hers. Large skillet, pierogies in the pan and just cover with water. Add butter to the water and as the water is boiled away the butter left on the pierogies fry them.
This is my kind of pierogies recipe. It’s fairly simple, doesn’t overpower the pierogies themselves (unlike the ones that douse them in heavy sauces.) This sounds great.
I have never had Pierogies. I will try them with this sauce. Thank you for the recipe.
I love the taste combination these would make. I haven’t had pierogies in a very long time. We did enjoy them, I just keep forgetting about them! This might change my mind 🙂 These would be nice on these fall days.
I haven’t had pierogies in years. This recipe caught my eye because I love these ingredients and now I really want to try this one sounds easy and fast thanks for sharing.
Pierogies are so tasty and I have never had a bad one! There is a Pierogie restaurant/shop near my home and we delight in dropping in there a couple of times a month.
I love pierogies so much! My mom actually brought over some frozen ones for us. They are perfect for when I don’t feel like putting a meal together by myself.
