The Statue of Liberty and Liberty State Park

The Statue of LibertyA few weeks ago we had the opportunity to take a little weekend trip to northern New Jersey, more specifically to Liberty State Park. If you have never visited this state park, it’s one of the nicest parks in New Jersey!

Liberty State Park offers visitors many different things! It’s the perfect place for a family outing. You’ll find beautiful walking trails, hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, boating, picnic grounds, playgrounds, the old New Jersey train station, nature exhibits and you can get ferry service over to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty.

You’ll find many memorials in the park that are dedicated to 9/11 (September 11th) and you’ll find the official New Jersey state memorial there too. In the background behind many of these memorials you’ll see the beautiful New York and Manhattan skyline.

It’s a very cool place and if you’re planning a visit, I recommend that you set aside at least 3 hours of time…more time if you plan on taking the Ferry over to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty or if you plan on going kayaking, etc. Some activities in the park are totally FREE to visitors and others will cost you some money.

Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island

We had a really nice time visiting Liberty State Park in New Jersey and will be visiting the park again next year. Next time around we want to bring our grandchildren so they can visit the Statue of Liberty, learn about early immigration (at the train station) and see the New Jersey 9/11 memorials.
