How many of you have ever visited Shenandoah National Park in the beautiful state of Virginia? Last fall my husband and I took a road trip down through Virginia and drove the scenic Skyline Drive. It was the first time for both of us and let me tell you, it was an incredible trip!
If you have never been there before, you’re in a for real treat! You’ll drive over many mountains and go through beautiful valley’s along the way. We didn’t stay overnight and was just passing through on our way to visit family members down south.
The national park offers camping, hiking, fishing, biking, horseback riding and other outdoor activities during the summertime. During the winter season you’ll find skiing, ice fish and other winter-appropriate activities.
One of the best times to visit the park is during the fall season. Thousands of visitors flock to the park to check out all of the gorgeous fall foliage that’s in-season. The best time to go is from mid-to-late October when the foliage is at its peak.
How many of you have visited the park before or have driven down Skyline Drive? If you have been there before, what time of the year did you visit? What kind of activities did you enjoy? If you have never been there before, is it on your travel bucket list?

Here in KY, we’re not too far from Virginia. My aunt and uncle do a drive in that direction every Fall just to look at the foliage.
I’ve never heard of this place but it looks so pretty! Such a nice place for a family vacation 🙂
I was able to drive the Skyline Drive several times when I was working in D.C. My favorite was in the Fall. Such beautiful colors.
The Shenandoah Valley skyline is breathtaking! I have been blessed enough to have ridden the Shenandoah Valley several times and all seasons. Frankly Shelley, at the time, each season was my favorite. The drive never disappoints and the sites are delightful!
