Halloween Craft Project – Painted Frankenstein Seashells

Last fall we kicked off an entire series of hand-painted seashells and clam shells here on the Two Classy Chics blog. Since that time we’ve shared with you Halloween, Christmas, Spring and Summer designs. You can find them in the CRAFTS section here on the blog or over on our boards on Pinterest.

Now that Fall and Halloween have rolled around again, we’re getting busy with some new designs that we’ve been adding to our ever-growing collection. If you don’t have access to large clam shells (seashells), you can use large river rocks too!

Halloween Craft Project – Painted Frankenstein Seashells

Large Clam Shell (at least 5″ wide)
Acrylic Paint – Green, White and Black
Black Fine-Tip Sharpie Marker
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paint Palette
Newspaper and Paper Towels
Can of Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer

Cover your work surface with 2-3 sheets of newspaper. Wash and thoroughly dry the clam shell (best to let it air dry overnight).

Using green acrylic paint, paint the entire outside of the seashells. Let dry for 30 minutes and then paint on a second coat. Let dry for 30 minutes. Using black acrylic paint, make triangles across the top of the shell to serve as his creepy hair. You should only need one coat of paint. Using white acrylic paint…paint two oval shapes to serve as his eyes. Let these newly painted areas dry for about one hour.

Take the fine-tip black Sharpie marker and outline each eye in black and then draw a black pupil in the center of each eye. Use that same Sharpie marker to draw on his nose and mouth. Add black zig-zag to each side of his face. Let dry for about 15 minutes. Sharpie markers dry quickly.

Place 1-2 sheets of newspaper down on the ground outside. Lay your seashells on top. Lightly spray a coat of clear acrylic sealer over the painted design. Wait about 30 minutes and add a second coat. Let dry outside for 4-6 hours or overnight. Your newly painted Frankenstein Clam Shell can now be used indoors or out and the clear sealer will protect the painted areas from chipping, scratches and sun-fade.

There’s so many ideas to be painting. We need some acrylic spray to seal all of our fun painting we’ll be doing soon.

  2. You certainly have lots of sea shells to use for all your fun craft projects. Lots of different ways to use sea shells from all your shore excursions.

Ha, that’s a pretty cute idea. You could easily do a Dracula or a Mummy, too. (If you have more painting skills than I do, lol.)
