Halloween Craft Project Painted Candy Corn Seashells

We’ve been having a lot of fun over the past few months hand-painting several holiday designs onto seashells and large clam shells that we collected while down at the beach. I think we have 4-5 different designs now for every holiday and season throughout the year. We love putting them on our front porch or on the side’s of the steps leading up to our front porch for everyone to see.

Halloween Craft Project Painted Candy Corn Seashells

Today’s project is super-easy and a great one for kids to do. We did these hand-painted candy corn designs on large 5″ to 7″ wide clam shells. You’ll want to wash and thoroughly dry them before starting this project. Love the black cat design? You can find it HERE.

Large Clam Shells
White, Orange and Yellow Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish and Paint Palette
Newspaper and Paper Towels
Mod Podge Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

Cover your work surface with 2-3 sheets of newspaper.

Starting at the bottom of your large clam shell, paint a yellow semi-ring. You basically want to paint your rings to cover 1/3 of the seashell, per color that your using. Let dry and then paint on a second yellow coat of paint. Let dry again.

You’ll then paint on your two coats of orange acrylic paint, allowing each coat to dry for 30-45 minutes before applying the next coat. Then move on to the two coats of white acrylic paint that you’ll need to finish off the candy corn design. Let the entire seashell dry for 2 or more hours.

Take 2 sheets of newspaper outside and lay it onto the ground. Place your clam shells on top. Lightly spray a coat of clear acrylic sealer over the painted design. Let dry for 45 to 60 minutes and then apply a second coat. Let dry for several hours.

Your new hand-painted candy corn designed seashells are now ready for display. Since you sealed-in the paint, you can use them outside to decorate your front porch, your yard and/or garden areas. Fun! You can find some of our other Halloween Seashell Designs right here on our blog our our general theme’d seashell designs too!
