Frugal Finds: Bargain Shopping at the Flea Market

Frugal Finds and Hot DealsHow many of you enjoy shopping at your local Flea Market? We have several fleas that are within a 30 minute drive from our home. I really enjoy going to them when I have the time. We try to hit one up every month and rotate which one’s that we visit. Sometimes you’ll see the same vendors from market-to-market, but most of the time you’ll see different vendors and of course…sellers who come just for the day to unload their unwanted stuff.

Back in early August we went down to Saturday’s Market in Middletown, Pennsylvania. It’s the largest indoor & outdoor farmer’s market & flea market in Pennsylvania. The place is HUGE and I always find a few things to buy every time that we go. Inside is basically where you’ll find the farmer’s market booths, eateries and collectible vendors. The majority of these vendors are there every Saturday, year-round.

Outside is where you’ll find the majority of the people who come just once or twice to unload (sell) their unwanted household goods and treasures. That’s where I tend to find the BEST bargains!!! If you want the best selection, you go really early in the morning. If you wanted the best bargains, go later in the morning (between 10 AM and Noon) to make your offers because the sellers would rather sell than drag their stuff back home.

On this particular shopping trip I got several bargains. I can’t talk about some of them because my daughter and BFF read this blog. They’re upcoming holiday gifts. With that said, I can tell you that I got 4 like-new outdoor patio chairs for our backyard for only $9.00 TOTAL. It was getting close to closing time and the storm clouds were moving in, so the seller sold them to me for a heck of a deal. The perfect chairs for when we’re entertaining outdoors and need more seating.

As you all know, I decorate in a coastal & beach theme. A different seller in the next aisle had a brand new Pier 1 Imports stoneware cookie jar in a beautiful coastal aqua color and she sold it to me for $2.00. I had seen that same cookie jar in their store last summer for $24.99. I’m a frugal shopper and didn’t want to pay that much. Glad I held off because I got that brand new cookie jar at the Flea Market for $2.00. What a deal and it looks beautiful sitting in my kitchen!

I would love to find bargains. I love flea markets , but have not had a chance to recently visit any of them.

  2. Unfortunately we don’t have a flea market nearby but when I lived In upstate New York years ago there were several in the area that were fairly large and had all kinds of good bargains.

  3. We don’t have a regular flea market here. We have some buildings that sell spaces but that is people trying to sell junk. I just saw a sign on a building near here that lead me to believe that it could be a flea market building opening soon. I hope so. I will go early so I can get things before they are snatched up early. I love a bargain.

  4. I think Flea markets can be fun but I haven’t been to one in a long time. The best one around here is about 25 miles from where I live.
