How to Display Your Seashells During the Autumn Season

Fall is finally here and I’ve been busy changing out my summer decorations over to my Autumn ones. As someone who decorates her home in a beach & coastal style, it can be difficult at times coming up with fall decorating ideas. Well, last week I solved some of those problems!

I had collected a lot of seashells from our summer vacation and had them displayed in a white wicker basket. I decided to use some of the shells in my Autumn decorating and my project turned out nicely!

If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 70+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!

Hand Painted Metallic Seashells for Fall

At my local craft store I purchased bronze and gold metallic acrylic paints. They had them on sale for $1.00 per bottle. I enjoy using acrylic paints because they’re easy-to-use, they dry fast and they’re affordable.

After I laid down some old newspaper onto my craft table I got busy painting some of my seashells with the metallic paints. For the most part, each seashell got 2 coats of paint for even coverage. It took them about 60 minutes to thoroughly dry. If you want to give them a nice sheen, you can spray them with a coat of clear acrylic spray sealer.

In addition to the seashells I had collected some large acorns, small twigs and small river rocks while out on a nature walk. I painted them just like the seashells and mixed them into my display. This really gave me the Autumn look that I was going for!

So, how did I use my new fall goodies around my home? Well, I have several of them displayed in a glass sunflower bowl sitting on my one end table in the living room, several others are displayed in a brown wicker basket and a few of the larger ones are displayed in my china hutch. I took 8 of the newly painted scalloped seashells and glued each one onto a dark orange satin ribbon and then turned them into napkin rings. Just tie them around your cloth napkins for a DIY look on your dining room table.

You can use them in a ton of different ways! Place them in a flower vase, ceramic planter, layer them into a larger abalone shell, toss them onto a charger plate, fill up a hurricane candle holder or fill up an empty hanging lantern. The sky is the limit and this is just the tip of the iceberg on how you can use them in your Fall decorating.

Matter of fact, I have a clear glass pumpkin cookie jar that I’m going to get out of attic next weekend and I think I’ll fill that up with some of these goodies too!

  3. Your shells painting project turned out to be a success! I haven’t considered painting shells and placing them in a display blow but what a great idea. Also, this would be a fun project to include the children in on.
