Craft Project: Easy Seashell Refrigerator Magnets

How many of you live near the beach or went on summer vacation to the beach? We’re lucky that we live 3 1/2 hours away from the Atlantic Coast and head down to the Jersey Shore several times every year. When I’m down at the beach house I like to spend hours walking the beach and collecting seashells. I use them to decorate my home and in various craft projects that I make.

Craft Project: Easy Seashell Refrigerator Magnets

A few weeks ago I decided to give the front of my refrigerator a new look. I took down all of my regular magnets and placed them out on the front of my upright freezer which sits in my pantry room. The front of my refrigerator looked cluttered with all of those magnets & artwork that my grandchildren had made. Since I decorate in a beach & coastal theme, I decided to make my own seashell magnets. I went for the natural look, but you could certainly paint them with acrylic craft paints if you wanted to add color.

Small to Medium Sized Seashells
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Matte or Glossy Finish
Round Heavy Duty Magnet Disks
E6000 Adhesive Glue

When picking out which seashells to use you want to consider their size and weight. Pick small to medium sized shells that are light-weight for best results. Wash off the sand and let them thoroughly dry overnight.

I took mine outside and lightly sprayed them with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. It brought out their natural color even more! Once they were thoroughly dry (about 90 minutes later) I brought them back inside.

The E6000 adhesive glue is a very strong adhesive and you will get a good bond between the magnet and seashell. I liked gluing it on the backside of some of the shells and on the front side of others, depending on the shell. You’ll want to let them dry overnight before using them. That’s it, super easy and a great way to use up some of your smaller seashells!
