Coastal Chic Outdoor Front Porch Lighting

For the past few months we’ve been working on some home improvement projects around our house. One of the things we wanted to do was to update and replace our outdoor porch lighting with something new and modern. Since I decorate in a coastal and beach style, I headed over to Amazon and found exactly what I needed.

We selected the Sunlite 16-Inch Decorative Carriage Style Wall Mount Outdoor Fixture with Beveled Glass in White for our front porch lighting. Our front door has wall-mounted lights on each side of the door. The previous home owners had brass lighting fixtures which had rusted over the years and they looked horrible!

We ordered 2 of the Carriage Style Fixtures in White (they’re currently sold out in white but still have black available) and I love them! It took my husband about 25 minutes to remove our old lighting and to install the new ones. It was a really easy process to replace them and WOW…what a difference it has made! I love the new look!

Officially we have 2 front porches and the other porch needed a new light fixture too! For that one we selected the Hardware House Porch – Two Light Outdoor Flush Mount, White Finish with Frosted Glass Light Fixture. We selected this style as it has a little “footprint” and doesn’t look too big and gaudy. I like the white color which works well with our coastal theme and I love the frosted glass cover which gives the lighting a nice glow. It’s not overly bright and not too dim, just right!

The previous home owners had a cheap black colored light on that porch and well, it looked horrible. You could tell it was cheaply made and the black color stood out like a sore thumb. It took my husband 10 minutes to remove the old light and to install the new white colored porch light. It looks fantastic and I like that it will be easy to clean when I do my outdoor cleaning seasonally. I can pop off the glass cover, clean it and put it back up. I wish people would regularly take the time to clean their outdoor lighting fixtures as it really makes a difference in how they look & the quality of light that you get from them.

Now that those are done we’re looking into replacing the old lamppost (lamp post) that sits out in our front yard guiding visitors up our sidewalk to the front door. The one that is current sitting out there has been there for at least the past 20 years. My husband did replace the glass globe on it 5 years ago (it was cracked), but I really don’t care for the current design.

I was over on Amazon and fell in-love with the EdenBranch Sun-Ray Vittoria Solar LED Lamp Post and Planter Combo. I’m seriously thinking about ordering that item next. I like that it’s solar powered which will help to reduce our electric bills and I really love that it’s a garden planter too! I would load the planter up with beach sand and then place various seashells on top for a beautiful coastal beach-style look. How fun would that be to decorate during the holiday season! Yes, I’ve got all kinds of decorating ideas in mind!

Another great thing about it? It’s portable! I can move it into the backyard and near our swimming pool area or the deck when we’re entertaining friends and family. While it looks “plain” in their photo, I’m imagining it all decorated up and with beautiful blooming flowers in that planter. Yup, that thing is next on my list!

I receive a lot of emails from people who stumble upon our great blog asking me what color did I use for our house paint? My house is often shown in photos when I’m reviewing outdoor items. Well, the paint color is called “Stormy” and it’s from the Sherwin Williams coastal paint collection. (You can see the color in the photograph above). It’s like a grayish blue. Sometimes it looks bluer depending on how the sun is hitting it. We really love that color!
