You can readily pick up the clear glass fillable blocks at your local craft supply store or from Amazon. When filling it with your beach collectibles, you’ll want to make sure they’re small enough & slender enough to fit down through the block’s opening.

Beach Vacation Memories Displayed in a Glass Block

8″ by 8″ or 10″ by 10″ Glass Fillable Block
Beach Sand
Seashells, Sand Dollars, Starfish, etc.
Vinyl Stickers (or) Cricut Air Explore Machine

Note: You can use vinyl stickers to make the wordage or use your Cricut machine with vinyl to cut out your own. We did the popular beach saying of “A Day at the Beach”.

You will want to wash all of your collected seashells and let them thoroughly dry. I recommend getting a good bowl full of shells together, that way you can see what fits down through the opening and what looks good displayed together.

I cleaned my fillable glass display block with some glass cleaner to remove dust and fingerprints before I started filling it. Pour in your sand until it’s about 1/3 of the way full. You want the sand to be in an uneven layer, I like the slightly sloping angle of sand.

Insert your largest seashell first. For this particular one I used a large slender starfish, but in others that I made I used large sand dollars. I believe my starfish is about 4 1/2″ in size. You then want to randomly place your smaller seashells around it. Don’t overload the display cube with too many! Place the rubber stopper on top to seal things inside.

You can use vinyl stickers or a Cricut die-cutting machine to add your wordage onto the front of the glass cube (box). I liked the look of smaller-sized letters and I liked them positioned over-the-top of the beach sand. You can place them wherever you would like. That’s it, your project is done and ready to be displayed.

I love all the things you can do with a cricut. I think I need one because I’m always asking my sister to do projects for me with hers.

I really like this idea. It’s a nice way to preserve seashells, sand or other inexpensive vacation mementos. And you can do it to your own specifications.

    • They’re a lot of fun! I’ve made several now that are holiday themed and I switch them out according to the holidays. I’ll have to post my holiday ones as each holiday rolls up upon us. I have one for Valentine’s Day, Easter, a Summer one, a Patriotic one, Halloween, Vacation Beach, Fall and a Christmas one.
