Banana Fruit Bread Recipe

September 4, 2018 by Shelly

In case you haven’t guessed, I’m passionate about baking. I got my first baking experience at the age of 13 and have loved it ever since. Like most little girls, the first thing that I ever made was a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies. Shortly after the cookie-making experience, I ventured into sweet breads which are really easy to make.

Classic Banana bread is one of my favorites, but I have to admit…this Banana Fruit Bread runs a close second. Here’s the recipe.

Banana Fruit Bread Recipe

Banana Fruit Bread Recipe

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon peel, grated
1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed
1/2 cup candied fruits, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease your loaf pan and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

In a separate bowl sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and salt. Add the dry ingredients into the first bowl, alternately with lemon juice, beating after each addition.

Stir in the grated lemon peel, mashed bananas and chopped candied fruits, mix well by hand.

Pour bread batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until the center of the bread is done. Remove and let cool on a wire rack. Once cool, store bread in an airtight container or wrap it up. Store in the refrigerator for best results.

I love banana bread, but would not add candied citron. I would add a different dried fruit.

I bet this is good. I did guess right ! I do not bake as much as I once dd, but do love a nice banana bread now and again. I do like this version as the nuts hat are often in it are omitted (hubby has problems eating nuts) and I like the addition of the candied fruit a whole lot. I wonder if you can add like dried fruit of any kind? I know he loves dried apricots, and if they were cut smaller?

Now this is interesting. Never would have thought to add fruits. And the lemon! I have to try it.

I have heard of Banana Bread and Banana Nut bread but not Banana Fruit Bread. However, what a fresh take on an old fav! This would be great to have toasted and with some homemade butter on it with a cup of hot tea. Thank you for this recipe, I think it would be a great experiment for this fall on a cold night.

Even though I love bananas, I’ve never been much for banana bread. Most of my family love it, though, and this recipe sounds really good.

Are bananas haven’t lasted long this summer so I have been baking a lot of banana bread to freeze for the future. This would be a nice variation for a change.

I love Banana Bread too. I have never thought of putting candied fruits in it. That would be a nice surprise to find them.
