A Weekend Getaway to Stone Harbor in New Jersey
I admit…I love the Jersey Shore and I’m particularly fond of the southern Jersey Shore from Ocean City down to Cape May. Every year my family takes a trip down to Stone Harbor which sit 15 minutes south of Ocean City and about 8-10 minutes north of Wildwood. It’s a beautiful, family-friendly beach destination.
One of the things that makes Stone Harbor so specials is that it doesn’t have a boardwalk. It has a downtown business district with streets that are lined with shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, etc. You’ll find miniature golf, a movie theater and more. Plenty of things to keep the family busy.
Our family spent a fun weekend down in Stone Harbor and had a great time! We found 2 places that offered mini golf and let me tell you…those courses were a lot of fun! Each day we spent a few hours laying and playing on the beach. They do require you to buy beach tags, so you’ll need to be prepared for that. Their beaches are wide, super-clean and sandy!
Stone Harbor is officially a barrier island and you should see some of the waterfront homes! Oh my gosh…some of those homes definitely cost multi-millions and are really pretty to look at. A lot of them on the “bay side” of the island had their own boat docks too! You can tell that the residents take great pride in keeping their island community up-to-date and clean. You won’t find any slummy areas on the island at all.
One evening we were in the business district (downtown) and doing some shopping. There was a lady down there who was pulling a red wagon with 2 beautiful turtles inside. She was there to raise turtle awareness and if you donated $1.00 she would give you a stick with blueberries on it to feed to the turtles. All of the money raised went to turtle conservation. We’re big fans of turtles (we have 2 pet turtles) and let our little grandson feed the turtles their dinner…aka yummy blueberries! He absolutely loved it and was one of the highlights from our trip!
Anyway, I just wanted to give you a little glimpse of some of the activities and things my family has been enjoying this past summer. Have you visited a beach lately? If so, where is your favorite place to visit?
