Are you a fan of homemade applesauce, but looking for something a little bit different? Got an abundance of fresh pears on hand? If you answered YES to either of those questions, I’ve got a great recipe that I’m going to share with you today.
For the most part, I don’t list exact ingredients because it will depend on how many pears that you use and how big those pears are. I sweeten it with granulated sugar along the way…according to my own taste buds. When selecting your pears, you want them to be ripe, but not overly-ripe.
Slow Cooker Homemade Pear Sauce Recipe
20 to 30 fresh ripe pears
1 to 2 teaspoons lemon juice
ground cinnamon
granulated sugar
water
Remove skin, seeds and core from pears. Chop them up into pieces and place into your slow cooker. Add just enough water to cover the pears. Stir in the lemon juice. Cover and cook on high for one hour, reduce heat to low and cook for 3-4 additional hours.
Use a ladle and spoon out all of the excess water. Spoon the cooked pears into a blender or food processor. Cover and blend for about 10 to 15 seconds. Remove lid and stir in ground cinnamon and granulated sugar according to your own taste buds. Cover and blend for an additional 10-15 seconds. We like ours very creamy. If you like it chunky, blend less, if you like it creamy, blend more.
Let it cool in the blender container to room temperature. You can then spoon it into freezer containers and freeze or you can home can it into mason jars. You will want to follow your canner’s processing instructions for applesauce and make it the same way.
If you’re freezing it…it should keep for up to 3 months in your freezer. If you’re canning it, it should keep for up to 1 year when properly home canned.
