When I was a kid we used to go to the drive-in movie theater several times every month throughout the summer season. Back in those days, we had 6-7 of them around our local area. I remember my mom dressing us in our pajamas, packing up some pillows, blankets and snacks, and off we would go! Memories and fun times for sure.
Over the years those drive-in movie theaters started disappearing and now we have NONE in our local area. The closest one is an hour away and is always crowded on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Now…we only go over there once a year.
Back in early summer my husband and I took a road trip through central and northern Pennsylvania and stumbled upon the Super 322 Drive-In Movie Theater located on US Route 322, between Clearfield and Philipsburg in Pennsylvania. It’s about a 2 hour and 45 minute drive from our home.
The Super 322 is open seasonally from May through September on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. They’re a family-friendly drive-in theater that is affordably priced. From what I read online…the theater has been in business since 1950. Wow, I hope they continue to be around for many decades to come!
How many of you live near a drive-in movie theater and how many of you still go to see movies at the drive-in? If you had your choice of seeing a movie at a standard in-door theater or an outdoor drive-in movie theater…which one would you choose? For me personally, I love the drive-in and I really wish they would become popular again and that new ones would open up in our local area. How about you?

None anywhere close to us unfortunately. But the parks do have weekly outdoor family movies on Fridays or Saturdays and that is a fun experience to watch a movie outdoors.
I loved the drive-in when I was growing up. My hometown still has one, too, and it does pretty good business to this day.
We had them when we were growing up too. I loved going. It was so much fun and we have none now also.
As a family we didnt go to all that many movies at the drive in as my Dad worked 2nd shift. As a teen though…… well that was a different story! There were several drive ins here, and the favorite was by a friends house. We woul kinda sneak in and then hang out with people we knew. I think the owners knew and didnt much care. Now there is still one remaining, we haven been this year but it is a great time.
We also went to drive-ins when I was growing up. Great for families. I know the closest ones to me closed several years ago.
I LOVE this post so much! I miss going to the drive-in movies so much. I remember going with my parents when I was a kid and it really brings back great memories. All of our drive-ins are long gone and it makes me so so sad. You know all this technology isn’t all what’s its cracked up to be I miss the old days so much.
