Cut Paper Pictures is an approachable modern take on collage that focuses on creating a personalized collage pulled from the reader’s own photos and sketches. I’m a newbie when it comes to paper collage and this author really lays it all out in a simple-to-understand format. He goes with you step-by-step and teaches you all of the basic techniques that you’ll use.
I really like how the book is broken down into Collage Themes, Lettering & Patterns, Landscapes & Building a Scene, Creating Artwork from Photos, Closing Snips, Collage Basics and more! The artist does a really nice job at teaching you how to use different type’s of paper, how to color your paper, storing your scraps, how to find inspiration and walks you through building your collage.
At the back of the book are 48 perforated pages that you can pull out and use to make your paper collages. You can solely use them or add them to other papers and photographs that you already have. You can make a really simple project by using the included papers, a glue stick, scissors and a base for your paper collage. It’s a very in-expensive crafting medium to get into, if you’re looking for something new to try.
As soon as the grandchildren go back to school in 2 weeks I’ll be sitting down and trying my hand at paper collage. I have a ton of photographs and papers leftover from my scrapbooking days and now I can put them to good use!
