How many of you have seashells that you’ve collected from a recent or past beach vacation? Heading to the beach for summer vacation this year? If you answered YES to either of those questions, you’re going to love our super-easy craft project this week! Matter of fact, we shared a version of this project with all of you last month (DIY Seashell Soap Dish) and here is our newest version! It’s very similar to the first one, but yet different.
If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 70+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!
Craft Project – DIY Large Seashell Trinket Dish
1 Large Clam Seashell
1 Glass Votive Cup or Glass Shot Glass
1/8 cup Beach Sand
Variety of Small Seashells, Beach Glass, Driftwood, etc.
Faux White Pearl
E6000 Adhesive Glue
See Additional Tips Below for Variations
Wash and thoroughly dry your large clam shell. Fill the glass votive cup or glass shot glass 1/4 of the way with beach sand. Place small seashells, beach glass, slivers of driftwood, etc. on the sand.
Using the E6000 Adhesive Glue…add glue around the entire top of the rim of your glass container. You don’t want to go overboard with the adhesive, just a thin line will do. (it’s very strong-holding glue).
Press your large seashell onto the top of your glass container and hold it into place for one minute to get a strong bond. Add a small dot of adhesive into the corner of the clam shell and glue on your faux pearl. Let your project dry overnight.
Additional Tips: If you want to use it as a soap dish…spray the clam shell with a clear acrylic spray sealer (2 coats) and let dry for 24 hours before beginning the project. Spraying it with sealer will protect it from moisture. You can pick up clear glass votive candle cups and glass shot glasses at yard sales for .25 cents each! You can use metallic paints to add color to your seashells and/or use colored faux pearls. If you really want to “glam it up” you can spray all of your seashells with a clear spray that contains micro-fine glitter. We used the spray with silver glitter on one of our’s and it looked fabulous!

This is a very cute craft to make with shells.
Love your shell crafts. I am thinking this would be a cute craft for Vacation Bible School.
I have a few sets of them. I have a set that is done in metallic blue, metallic turquoise, silver and an glittery white that I’m going to put out during the holiday season. I have another set painted in springtime pastels and another set in metallic fall colors. Those big abalone seashells (like the one in my photo) works GREAT at displaying them and you can easily change out the shells & colors throughout the year to match the current season.
Holy seashells, Batman. You must have the largest collection on the east coast. You make cool things with them.
Perhaps! I’ve been collect shells since the age of 16 and I’m now 51. I’ve got boxes and boxes full of them, all kinds of seashells and I’m still collecting them.
You make the cutest crafts with your shells. I like this one too. I hope you are doing better with this surgery. Prayers coming your way.
I am! I’m coming along, slowly but improving! Just glad that the entire ordeal is over with.
