A Visit to the Wilbur Chocolate Store

July 18, 2018 by Shelly

Wilbur Chocolate Store - Lititz PennsylvaniaI love chocolate and I’m sure many of you love it too! I seriously could eat chocolate everyday and I don’t think I’ve ever turned down a good piece of chocolate. Ever.

A few weeks ago we took a day trip down to Lititz in Pennsylvania and one of the places that we visited was the Wilbur Chocolate Store located on N. Broad Street. When people think of Pennsylvania and chocolate, they always think about that “other” famous chocolate company, but let me tell you…we have MANY great chocolate companies in this state!

Once your in the Wilbur Chocolate Store you’ll see all kinds of cool vintage items that decorate the store. We saw old victorian tea pots, tea cups, country antiques, old candy molds and vintage candy-making machines. It was really cool to look at.

The store has a glass wall separating a good portion of it from the candy-making department. Visitors can stand there at the glass wall and watch the candy makers making candy. On the day that we were there…we watched two ladies whipping up some delicious-looking chocolate confections.

Any time I visit a chocolate store, I can never leave empty-handed. I ended up purchasing $30 worth of goodies that day, including a few chocolate lollipops for my granddaughter who was with us. I picked up some delicious Wilbur Buds (will be using those for baking) and their chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered peanuts are some of the best that I’ve ever had!!!

Right across the street you can check out the old Wilbur Chocolate Co. factory building which is a LOT larger in-person than what my photograph depicts. I love checking out old buildings when we travel. It’s a shame that so many of the old factories in the United States have been closed up. Sigh.

So, something a little bit different for our weekly travel feature this week! We enjoyed our visit to the Wilbur Chocolate Store and any time that I’m down in Lititz again, I’ll be stopping in and stocking up!

I would love seeing the vintage candy making items. So much history has been lost, it is nice knowing some is being saved and valued. I would imagine at one time there was much more competition in the chocolate industry in your area. After all, it would be the same people bringing it to the US, and this was likely oneof them. I bethe chocolate is terrific and made in smaller batches.

I remember when I was little we went to a factory like this in New York but that was so long ago. I sure would love to go again and this one looks really neat. I love chocolate and could do some serious damage in that gift shop area.

It would be fun to watch chocolate being made. I wouldn’t be able to leave empty handed either.
