How many of you enjoy seeing outdoor street art and wall murals? We’re big fans of street art and every time we take a road trip or do any type of traveling…we seek it out! I’m always amazed at the beautiful work that these talented artists produce.
A few months ago we took a road trip through western Pennsylvania and visited Mercer and New Wilmington. Both are small towns that are rich in history and culture, but yet, both have their own unique vibe with New Wilmington being in the heart of Amish country.
While exploring Mercer, Pennsylvania we stumbled upon an outdoor wall mural painted on the side of an old building that sits across from the Mercer County Courthouse. The design features the old Mercer train station which is now gone. I read somewhere online that it took the artist 2 weeks to complete. (first photo above).
Down in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania in the heart of Amish country stumbled on this large and very colorful wall mural that was completed in June 2017. The design depicts things that are from or seen in the local area…like the Banks Covered Bridge and Amish Horse & Buggies. Way too cool.
Over the next few weeks I’ll share more photographs and information with all of you about the areas that we visited on our western Pennsylvania road trip. In the meantime, do you enjoy going out to see street art and outdoor wall murals? Got any favorite mural artists that you like?
I think street art is beautiful, as long as it’s not slanderous graffiti.
You have managed to find some very beautiful wall outdoor murals. I really like the one opposite the courthouse.
I’ve been to the Amish Country a number of times yet never heard of New Wilmington. The mural looks lovely. The colors are vibrant.
Those are really beautiful. There are a few here in the downtown area. I need to take a few pictures of them next time I am there.
We have several really nice outdoor murals in our town. I think the ones like the first you picture done on bricks are the most interesting. It is nice when an artists takes local history and makes it come to life. No, I dont really have a favorite artist I think each town has someone local who has the passion to create forall to see.
I really appreciate outdoor wall murals and some street art. We have a local annual event where artists do street art with chalk on the city sidewalks and some of the art is just amazing.
