Kid’s Crafts: DIY Glitter Stretchy Slime Recipe

Kid's Crafts: DIY Glitter Stretchy Slime RecipeWe spend a lot of time with both of our grandchildren and several times every month we have them over for arts & crafts play dates. We will work on all kinds of different projects that help to teach them new things and allow their creativity to flow. As an added bonus, we’re building fabulous memories with them.

Last month we had the kids over and decided to try our hand at making Glitter Stretchy Slime. You can find all kinds of DIY Slime Recipes online and after looking at several of them, we decided to use the recipe found on the Little Bins for Little Hands blog. What’s really cool about using her recipe is that you only need 3 basic ingredients.

In addition to her basic recipe which is below…we added organic food coloring and micro-fine glitter (the kind used in bath & body products) to our slime recipe. I purchased the eye drops, baking soda and school glue at our local dollar-type of store. The glitter I purchased online from a website that sells soap making products.

Instead of stealing her wonderful step-by-step directions along with her wonderful step-by-step photographs…I’m going to link to her website. You’ll want to head on over to the Little Bins for Little Hands blog for all of the directions and tips! Trust me, this project is super-easy to make and I always give fellow bloggers credit, where credit is due (unlike others). Kid's Crafts: DIY Glitter Stretchy Slime Recipe

We followed all of her directions and once we had the ingredients mixed together, we kneaded the slime for about 15 minutes and then kneaded-in the micro-fine glitter. You can use as much or as little glitter that you would like. I recommend using a different color of glitter than your slime color, so that it shows up better. Please note: DO NOT USE CRAFT GLITTER!!!

For our project we used some old plastic bowls to mix up our slime recipe and then just tossed those bowls away once we were done. In addition, we stored each of the different colors in a zipper-close plastic quart-size freezer bag. The bags are resealable and the kids can play with their new glitter stretchy slime whenever they want. You will want your children to wash their hands after playing with their slime!

Micro glitter is a wonderful thing to use to add to slime and other things.

We have made slime a few times but the clean up is a pain. Using old plastic bowls that you can toss after is a great suggestion.

  4. I had no idea you could make this at home. This looks like a lot of fun and I love the idea of putting glitter in it. Thanks for sharing this one.

Looks fun! We are making slime this week. 🙂 Do you find that the food coloring stains the child’s hands at all?
