A Day Trip to Ephrata in Pennsylvania
Once a month my husband and I enjoy taking a day trip around our great state. A few months ago we head down to Ephrata in Pennsylvania. Luckily for us, we were able to make it there in about an hour, which allowed us plenty of time to explore the area. Ephrata is located about 20-30 minutes north of Lancaster and about 50 minutes south of Harrisburg.
It’s a small city that offers a lot of small town charm. As you drive up and down the streets you’ll notice a lot of older-style homes with some Victorian charm. In the downtown business district you’ll find small boutiques, gift shops, cafes & restaurants, a few churches and other businesses.
One of the things that we immediately noticed was that many of the streets were lined with hanging banners that honor the fallen veterans from the local area. These banners show a photo of the veteran and gives you a few quips of information about him or her. Since we’re a big supporters of our military, I really enjoyed seeing them.
Another thing that I enjoyed seeing were some of their beautiful old churches! Oh my gosh, some of these churches were just incredible to see! You can tell that this town takes great pride in maintaining their old churches and keeping them up-to-date.
On the day that we visited we went to the Green Dragon Flea Market and did some shopping. I picked up some gifts that I needed, fresh produce to take home and I found the most beautiful faux-fur scarves while I was there. Needless to say, I bought 3 scarves for myself and 5 additional ones to give as gifts!
We then headed back into town to Scratch Bakes (shown in the first photo) for brunch. Oh my gosh…they have delicious food! I love finding small family-owned restaurants and this one was definitely top-notch! The food was yummy good and their prices were just right! After brunch…I did some additional shopping in some of the downtown boutiques and purchased a beautiful necklace.
How many of you are familiar with Dick Winters from the Band of Brothers? He was a famous World War 3 veteran and war hero who was featured in the HBO hit mini-series. Anyway, there is a park in Ephrata that has a Dick Winters memorial, so we stopped by the park to pay our respects. Gorgeous park and we really enjoyed visiting the memorial.
Anyway, I wanted to give you a little “peek” into our day trip down to Ephrata in Pennsylvania. It’s a great place to visit!
