What to Expect in Drug or Alcohol Rehab

June 27, 2018 by Sam H.

What to Expect in Drug or Alcohol RehabMillions of people enter drug and alcohol rehab each and every year. Unfortunately, not everyone knows what to expect during their rehab stint. Many people fear the rehabilitation process, and they don’t necessarily want to deal with the unknown. Drug and alcohol rehab is a daunting spectre to the average person. Do you  know someone dealing with alcohol addiction? Read on to find out how you can help them.

Here’s a quick overview of the drug and alcohol rehab process:

It All Starts With The Intervention

Sadly, the average person doesn’t enter rehab willingly. First an intervention is held to gauge what the addict thinks of their situation. The end goal of an intervention is to get someone to agree to attend rehab voluntarily. However, some interventions result in forced rehab, depending upon how the individual responds. An intervention is often an intense and emotional experience but comes with the best of intentions from friends and loved ones.

Rehab Starts With Detox and Withdrawal

When most addicts enter an Orlando inpatient rehab clinic – as well as those in other locations – they will often be heavily addicted to drugs or alcohol. In such cases, addicts must undergo a detox period, which also involves dealing with withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol and individual drugs come with various detox side effects. Patients can expect physical and even emotional distress during this period. Detox always feels longer than it is, but this step is necessary in order to get a patient into the real rehab process.

Assessment and Diagnosis

After going through detox, addiction patients are assessed by medical professionals. Most luxury rehab san diego and similar facilities in other locations typically gauge a person’s level of addiction and how to best treat said addiction. These assessments are a vital part of the rehab process. Following the assessments, patients at a drug rehab will be given a plan for recovery, which often starts the following day.

The Actual Treatment Phase

Treatment begins after detox and assessments. From this point on, patients will receive actual treatment from the rehab facility. This can involve a regimen of various medications. A patient will remain supervised throughout the day and unable to leave the rehab facility. Also, they may have to attend classes and engage in exercises that help a patient overcome their addiction. Every rehab facility handles this process slightly differently.

What Happens Next?

If the rehab facility deems a patient reformed, then they’re often OK’d to leave the facility. They may stay at a patient care facility for one to six weeks following a stint in rehab. Regardless, the rehab facility gives the outpatient a regimen to follow in order to maintain sobriety. Every patient receives a custom-tailored plan to remain sober and healthy after rehab. Then patients must spend the rest of their lives being sober and happy.

You can learn more about drug and alcohol rehab. In the end, rehab is often a challenging but beneficial process for the average addict. Rehab is a necessary step to recover from addiction and maintain long-term sobriety. Although the process seems daunting, patients will appreciate everything rehab provides in the grand scheme of things.
