Over the past few years I’ve shared with all of you my life for the ocean and the beach. I’m a total coastal beach chick! Seriously, I love anything and everything that has to do with the coastal life…including home decor, food, outdoor activities and yes, artwork too!
A few months ago we spent some time down in Ocean City, New Jersey and I took the time out of our busy schedule to go hunt down an outdoor wall mural by one of my favorite artists, David Dunleavy. I’ve featured some of his other wall murals here on the blog over the past few years too.
Anyway, the one that I recently got to see is titled “Endangered Blue Whales” and was painted by artist David Dunleavy back in 2007. It’s painted on the side of a building up on the Ocean City boardwalk. To be more specific, you’ll find it painted on the building that houses the famous Fudge Kitchen candy & fudge shop which sits right on the boardwalk.
The wall mural is quite large and I couldn’t fit it into one entire photograph due to other people being up on the boardwalk and obstructing my view. Hence, you’ll see two photographs in this post. The one photo shows a mother and baby blue whales and the second photo shows an endangered sea turtle.
Even though it was painted back in 2007, it still looks really great. Often times the salt air, salt water and intense sunlight along the coast can cause them to fade and get damaged. I have to say though, this one looks really good even though it’s almost 11 years old.
Do any of you enjoy viewing street art and/or outdoor wall murals? If so, do you have any favorite artists that you like to follow? I would love to hear about it!

I enjoy seeing murals like these.but there are none near me. I would love to travel to the Ocean City boardwalk to see all the murals.
These are really beautiful murals and I think the artist is amazing. I love seeing things like this on vacations thank you so much for sharing these great pictures.
I cant think of an artist offhand without going and seeing who signed it! We have numerous WPA paintings here The Works Progress Administration did many murals inside of courthouses and such and the artists were very talented. In smaller towns in articula is where they still are and now most are preserved.
I loveth blue whale, the colors are lovely!
I like seeing the murals that are painted in many of the small towns around us. Many do have a water theme. We also have an outdoor sculpture park nearby that is fun to walk through.
That looks like a mural that was painted on the Coca Cola building in Atlanta many years ago. Maybe he was the artist to that one too. It was beautiful.
