How many of you have watched the HBO mini series Band of Brothers? It’s a movie about D-Day, World War II, Major Dick Winters and Easy Company. Since I’m a military movie buff, it’s one of my favorites and I’ve probably watched it at least 25 times! If you have never seen the drama mini series, I highly recommend that you see it. It’s a real eye-opener to D-Day and World War II.

The series follows the life of Major Dick Winters and Easy Company throughout World War II and Major Winters in a native to Pennsylvania. He grew up approximately 1 hour from our home, near Ephrata Pennsylvania.
A few years ago the locals in Ephrata wanted to honor Major Winters, so they did some fundraising and took up collections. Over in Normandy, France there is a full-size Dick Winters Monument and they wanted to erect a replica of that monument in Veteran’s Plaza Park. Well, they completed it and I’ve been wanting to see it for the past two years!
Hubby took me on a road trip last Fall down to Lancaster County and we stopped in Ephrata so that we could visit the monument. It’s a really nice place to visit and they have informational plaques where you can learn more about him and his military life/career. It’s a serene and beautiful memorial to visit.
Today I wanted to share two photographs that we took of the Major Richard (Dick) Winters Monument during our visit. He’s now deceased and I was happy to finally pay my respects and honor this true American Hero!
