Kid’s Craft Project Painted Panda Bear Seashells

For the past 14 months we’ve been sharing with all of you several seashell and clam shell theme’d craft projects. Every time we go down to the beach house, we come home with several large bags of collected seashells and are always looking for fun ways to use them in our crafting projects.

Today’s kid’s seashell craft project is super easy-to-make and my 9 year old granddaughter had a fun time making them and made several of them during our craft date.

Note: We used clean and dry x-large clam shells that we collected from the beach. Each one measures at least 5″ in width.  The smaller seashells measure about 2″ in width. If you don’t have seashells, you can use river rocks too! Even though my granddaughter made them, I did have to assist her when it came to using the extra-strong adhesive. You do NOT want to get that adhesive on your skin!!!

Kid’s Craft Project Painted Panda Bear Seashells

Large Clean Clam Shells
2 Small Clam Shells
White and Black Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish and Paint Palette
E-6000 Adhesive Glue
Newspaper and Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Sealer – Glossy Finish

Lay two sheets of newspaper down onto your work surface. Have an adult glue the two smaller clam shells onto the large clam shell to form the panda bear’s ears using E-6000 adhesive. Let dry overnight, so that you get a good strong bond.

Using white acrylic craft paint, cover the outside of the large clam shell. You’ll need to use 2-3 coats of paint, letting each coat dry for about 30 minutes before applying the next coat. Use black acrylic paint to paint the smaller clam shells which form the ears. We used two coats of paint.

To make the panda’s facial features you can use black acrylic craft paint or a black Sharpie Marker. Make sure you let everything dry thoroughly. The eyes should be in an oval shape and slanted at an angle. Once dry, use white acrylic paint to dot the center of each eye. Let dry.

Take two sheets of newspaper outside and lay your painted panda bear seashells on top. Lightly spray one coat of clear acrylic sealer onto the clam shell. Let dry for 30-45 minutes and then apply a second coat. Let dry overnight. Your seashells are now protected and can be used indoors or outdoors.
