David Dunleavy Sea Life Cape May Legends Wall Mural

We love to travel and one of our favorite places to visit is Cape May in New Jersey. It’s one of those coastal towns that is rich is history and culture, and is located on the most southern tip of New Jersey. Millions of visitors flock to Cape May every year and there is always something going on in Cape May, year-round.

As a person who loves looking at street art and wall murals, I’m always hunting them down when we travel. One of my favorite artists is David Dunleavy and he paints some of the prettiest sea life wall murals that I’ve ever seen! Matter of fact, I’ve been running around for 5 years now photographing them and documenting them for my own personal enjoyment.

This particular one is called “Cape May Legends” and measures 65 feet high by 300 feet long. it’s quite large and I just love it! It’s located on the side of a large building in downtown Cape May and faces a large parking lot. If you want to get a nice view of it and photograph it, you’ll want to go early in the morning or during the “off season” to avoid the parked cars obstructing your view of it in the parking lot.

Over the years the salt water and intense sunlight has caused the colors to fade, but if you get close to it, you can make out the entire scene. If you look closely, you’ll see all of these victorian style homes lined up across the top of the scene with dolphins, whales and sea turtles swimming in the Atlantic Ocean…right off the coast of Cape May. I just love it!

If you ever get to visit Cape May in New Jersey, I hope you seek out this beautiful outdoor wall mural. It’s quite large in size and is really something to see!

I have seen some of your mural photos and this one is beautiful as well. I love murals like this. It takes some real talent to be able to paint something like this on such a large scale.

    • I totally agree! From talking to some of the various streetart artists, it can take several days to a few weeks to do a large scale outdoor wall mural like this! I absolutely love street art and wall murals and always hunt them down when we’re traveling. Of course, my favorites are beach, sealife and ocean themes!

  3. That is a beautiful mural. Cape May seems like such a lovely place to visit, just saw it mentioned on another site the other day. The houses on the top is just another gorgeous touch.

This is so pretty. I saw one painted on the side of the Coca-Cola building in Atlanta. It is amazing that they keep the prospective of size.
